1. The younger sister (child number 8) is not Elsabe but Elizabeth Joha nna
2. There are birth and baptismal dates for her
3. She was married to Wessel Johannes Groenewald
4. Death notices exist for Elizabeth Johanna and her husband
5. Elsabe does not appear in most genealogies
6. A marriage date is given for Elsabe
7. There are two daughters named Elizabeth Johanna - both with husban ds and children.
Until more information emerges it seems safe to assme that Elsabe d ied in infancy

17407 1. The Gadneys caused some confusion until it was discovered that there we re two families whose progenitors were both from Oxford and born 8 years a part. Could they have been cousins?
2. He was a storekeeper at the Palmiet River (Grabouw area) in 1832 and al so owned Korteshoven from 1832 until 1836 although he lived on the sdjoini ng farm De Rus. (Overberg Odyssey. Edmund Burrows 1994)

2. William was a merchant who lived at 10 Napier Street in Cape Town and h ad no Overberg connections. As all the work had been done, the genealo gy is included, paricularly as his large family apparently did not progre ss further than the next generation.

2. He was confirmed in the Paarl NGK on 4 April 1836 and married in the sa me congregation although resident in Tulbagh and he was still there duri ng the census of 1843 where he is recorded as the occupant of a house in K erk Street.
3. On 28 May 1860 he wrote to Government to complain that a plot in Cer es had been sold to someone else despite the fact that he had already pa id the survey fees on 20 06 1859. The sum of 9 Pounds 7 Shillings was refu nded on 22 June 1860.
4. On 30 January 1863 he complained about the fact that the Resident Magis trate at Tulbach had incorrectly prosecuted him for perjury. In these pape rs he was described as an Auctioneer but other documents refer to h im as a tradesman.
5. His estate was valued at 370 Pounds but very little remained for his fa mily after settling the bond of 350 Pounds.
