20996 The only record that exists for Austin Alexnda is a baptism dated 19 October 1873 at St. Johns Church and birth 29 September 1873. 20999 There appears to be some uncertainty with this surname which appears in so me early records as Sweetman.
He was born in Warbleton, Sussex and became a wheelwright in Kent. He sai led from Portsmouth in January 1820 aboard the the Weymouth, with his wi fe and three children, as a member of Menezes party.
Their daughter was accompanied by her husband George Maynard.
He had fought the battles of Copenhagen, the Nile , Cape St Vincent and Tr afalgar. The latter aboard the Orion as a Warrant Officer.
In about 1832 the family moved from the Kariega River to Zuiwerfonte in in the Winterberg where he died.
He was buried at Post Retief near Fort Beaufort
