21001 The Swart genealogy gives the marriage date as 7 1 1827 but this must be i ncorrect SWART, Catharina Johanna (I6691)
 
21002 There appears to be some uncertainty with this surname which appears in so me early records as Sweetman.
He was born in Warbleton, Sussex and became a wheelwright in Kent. He sai led from Portsmouth in January 1820 aboard the the Weymouth, with his wi fe and three children, as a member of Menezes party.
Their daughter was accompanied by her husband George Maynard.
He had fought the battles of Copenhagen, the Nile , Cape St Vincent and Tr afalgar. The latter aboard the Orion as a Warrant Officer.
In about 1832 the family moved from the Kariega River to Zuiwerfonte in in the Winterberg where he died.
He was buried at Post Retief near Fort Beaufort

Marriage certificate found for John Henry Rich and Mary Elizabeth Otto at St. Georges Cathedral amd the witnesses were Esther Da Costa and Jas Page Chippendale and strangely enough on the death notice for a Caroline OTTO who died 17 August 1848 she died at the house of I. Da Costa who is Isaac Da Costa who is mentioned as a minor on the death notice of Isaac DA COSTA a Capatalist in Cape Town.
A death notice was found for a Mary Catherine Rich born in Chorley England who died aged 61 on 05 November 1929 - not the same person

No burial record of notice of death has been found for Mary Elizabeth and all availble records have been consulted

There was a baptism for a Abram Otto born 10 April 1866 and baptsed 11 November 1866 at St,. Johns with parents Abram and Helena Johanna - father could be possible brother of Mary.
There is also a marriage of a William Otto at St. Georges Cathedral on 30 September 1861 to Wilamina Martina Scholtz and witnesses were Rachel Otto
There was also a baptism for a William John Otto who was born 29 January 1853 baptised 25 September 1853 at St Johns and the mother is unmarried Clara Otto and witness is Carolinel Otto
