  1. Dr Hutchinson served in the Bengal Army for twenty years and then retir ed to the Cape. Earlier (1836) while he was on sick leave he used his gre at wealth to purchase ten farms in the Caledon area. Many of these, includ ing Dunghye Park remained in his possession for 34 years.
