  1. He came to the Cape as a youngster and eventually married one of the da ughters of Petrus Oosthuyzen whose wagons brought the family from Algoa B ay to Tharfield. 2. He was there during the War of the Axe in 1846 when the farmhouse was b urnt down. He sold the farm to William and moved to Chases Grant but lat er returned to Tharfield.
