  He was born at Glen Avon near Somerset East. Went to St Andrews College wh ile the family went to Kenya. He moved to Kenya in 1912. Camped on the slo pes of Mt Kenya during the plague. Climbed to 15000 ft. In 1913 bought far ms on the slopes of Mt Elgon. First settlers to cross the Nzoia River in to the new area .He was in the E.A.Transport during the war moving supplies from Niaro bi to Longido by ox wagon. Also an interpreter at Dar es Salaam. Studied A rt at Grahamstown and sculpture at the Royal College of Art in London, Eng land.
