  1. He arrived in about 1834 and concentrated on farming in partnership wi th his brother John. He was regarded as one of the best farmers in the cou ntry and was eventually reputed to be the biggest landowner in the Overber g. At one time he owned most of the land surrounding the Kleinrivier lago on from the mountains to the sea and stretching from Stanford to what h as become the centre of Hermanus.He also owned large farms at Karnemelksri vier and along the Sonderend river. 2. He died at Karnemelksrivier 3. His estate (6/9/211 F8924) was valued at 21580 pounds at a time when t he average monthly income was probably around fifteen.
