  He was a welldigger/bricklayer from Kent who sailed from Debtford, Lond on aboard the Zoroaster as a member of Dyason's party which numbered 67 i ndividuals. The boarding had taken place in December 1819 but departure w as delayed until 12 February 1820 as a result of the freezing of the Tham es river. They arrived in Simon's Town on 30 April where the party was transhipp ed to the Brilliant which reached Algoa Bay on 15 May..
