  1. He was born on Grootvlakte farm 2. According to the NGK register, he was baptised Gideon Jordaan (Mother 's surname) but in later records he is recorded as being a Baptist and t he second name replaced by James Henry. In both his parents' estat es he is referred to as Gideon Jordaan. 3. Served in Cape Mounted Police at Middelburg (Cape) until 18 May1908 wh en he was transferred to the District Police at Schoombie but he tender ed his resignation on 3 Aug 1908 which was effective from 6 September1908. 4. He joined Transvaal Police 1 April 1909 and served in Middelburg (TV L) as a clerk until he was discharged as being unsuitable on 5 Februar y1913 following a rape complaint. One must assume that he changed his nam es to hide his trail after this incident. During his service he was fin ed on three occasions for failing to comply with regulations. 5.
