• Notes

  1. He worked for a while in Kimberley and then moved to Klerksdorp whe re he married and started work in the office of the Mining Commissioner. 2. His steady promotion in that office was halted with the outbreak of t he Anglo Boer war during which he was captured at Paardeberg, transport ed to Ceylon via Simon's Town aboard the Catalonia and sent to the Diyatal awa camp in 1900. 3. His marriage was the first in the register of the newly established con gregation at Klerksdorp 4. He only returned home seven months after peace was declared and after j oining his family and not finding work he took to writing to augment his m eagre salary. 5. In 1914 he joined the Provincial Administration as a shop inspector a nd remained in that position until retirement when he purchased a smallhol ding at Bloemhof. 6.
